Benjamin Franklin (1706 – 1790) was a noted American statesman, writer, philosopher, publisher, scientist, and inventor. He is best known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, signer of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. Franklin has gained an international recognition as a scientist for his discoveries about electricity, especially the lightning rod. He was the founder and the first president of the American Philosophical Society. As a writer, Benjamin Franklin achieved success with his Poor Richard’s Almanack, that was published continually from 1732 to 1758 and was a best seller in the American colonies with print runs over 10,000 per year.
