On September 27, Elon Musk revealed what many are calling the most ambitious space plan. He announced a bold new plan to establish a permanent human habitation on Mars.
The main goal for SpaceX and humanity should be to get to Mars, and beyond. “It’s really a decision we need to make as a civilisation,” Musk said.
The Spacex interplanetary spaceship will be about the height of the 32 story Keystone building in Boston. It would take up to 100 “colonists” to the red planet in order to build a settlement. Though Musk hopes to ultimately take 200 or more per flight to make the cost cheaper per person.
“What kind of future do we want? Do we want a future where we are forever confined to one planet, until some eventual extinction event, however far into the future that might occur. Or do we want to become a multi-planet species, and then ultimately be out there among the stars?”, Musk asked.
The first human mission could launch as early as 2024.
