"I obtained my degree in English Writing from Loyola University in New Orleans in 2005. This was followed by my MFA in Creative Writing from The New School in New York City in 2009 and my MAT in English Teaching Grades 9-12 from the University of Memphis in 2012. Since then, I have taught middle school Language Arts and Creative Writing from 2014 - 2020. I currently teach grades 9th-12th in Creative Writing, English I, AP Seminar and AP Research. My AP students obtain average scores of 4 on their College Board assessments. My Creative Writing students have consistently won awards in the Scholastics Art and Writing Competition, Memphis in May Writing Contest, Playhouse Play Writing Slam, Tom Lee Poetry Contest, and many more. I have personally won the Memphis in May teacher of the year award and been published in several online and print literary and fiction magazines.
I have tutored students primarily for reading and writing. I work with emerging readers and readers who work best with a multi-sensory approach. I work with students to improve grammar and writing skills. These skills include essay, research, and creative writing. I also work with students on college essay writing to help them begin the process and with editing throughout. In addition, I tutor high school students to prepare for the ACT and SAT in reading and writing. I have my TOEFL certification and have worked with emerging English language learners to improve their vocabulary and communication skills.
This is my 15th year as a classroom teacher. I have worked with students from 3rd-12th grade both in the classroom and through tutoring. I love my job and greatly enjoy helping students find confidence in their reading and writing skills." less...
