"I recently earned my BA Summa Cum Laude from UMass Amherst with a double major in Linguistics and Comparative Literature, along with a French minor and a certificate in TESOL. I am currently pursuing an MA in Linguistics with a concentration in NLP at Syracuse University, and this summer I worked on an NSF funded experimental linguistics research grant conducting field work in the Caribbean for seven weeks. These accomplishments alongside tutoring linguistics for the past three years in topics such as phonetics, syntax, semantics, and computational linguistics helps me to aid my students with a variety of coursework.
I am fortunate to have received my linguistics training at UMass Amherst, currently the #2 school in the country for linguistics, and I use this unique background to help students raise their grades and understand material. Other subjects I enjoy tutoring besides linguistics and ESL include French, which I have been learning for 10 years and have recently have accepted a position as primary instructor of a French course.
I have also worked as an editor for mOthertongue, a journal of the arts published by the Comparative Literature department, and for the UMass Daily Collegian as a French translator. Last year, I was fortunate enough to aid in translating immigration documentation for the International Rescue Committee.
My research interests include computational morphosyntax, natural language processing, French-based Creole syntax, corpus linguistics, semantics, and language documentation. I am an advanced French speaker, and an intermediate speaker of Haitian Creole and Japanese. In my free time, I enjoy biking, gardening, video games, backpacking, and reading." less...
