"Hi! This is Mailin, a current MD/PhD student hoping to share my passion for science and make a little extra something during grad school. I graduated cum laude from Tufts University in MA with a Bachelors in Biology and moved down to TX for medical school. Currently, I have completed 3 years of medical school and am in my first year of graduate school. with plans to get a PhD in molecular biology.
I have experience tutoring college level courses in Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, and Biochemistry (4 years, mostly 1-on-1). I also currently tutor for the medical school for organ blocks, exam reviews, as well as clerkship shelf exams (3 years, some 1-on-1 and some online review sessions with 5-25 people). If there is a basic science, I've probably taken the class and tutored someone in it as well. I'm also happy to share my experiences about applications, MCAT prep, getting involved in lab research, building your CV, and medical school applications/interviews.
My goal for tutoring is to break down seemingly difficult subjects into simple concepts. I also emphasize "big picture" learning frequently, which I find helps students understand the interrelatedness between subjects; this helps for short term retention as well as long term recall (which is very useful for big exams like finals or MCAT).
Let me know how I can help!" less...
