"It’s a pleasure to e-meet you! I’m Patrick, and I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in computational biology from the University of Chicago. In college, I discovered my passion for teaching, and accumulated nearly 2,000 hours of teaching experience as a TA in general chemistry, biology, and biochemistry across 4 years. These experiences spanned large lecture sequences, interactive workshops of ~10 students, and also 1 on 1 tutoring sessions. I also volunteered at a local public school and tutored students in STEM classes. In all of these experiences, I resonated with the opportunity to connect with students on an individual level so that I could understand their needs and tailor study strategies to their specific goals.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching experiences was the formal training I received in pedagogical techniques. From spaced repetition, to concept maps, or even the Feynman method, each technique is a different tool for students to overcome their specific challenges and take the next step forwards. I strive to bring this skill set and mentality to each session so that I may serve as a tailored and personal educational resource for students.
I am specifically interested in tutoring for the MCAT. I scored a 524 on the MCAT after studying part time for 2 months, and my biggest resource was my tutor “P.A.”. He identified my content and test-taking weaknesses, before helping me strategize how I could use specific study resources to strengthen my performance. Since then, I have carried this help forward and leveraged my past teaching experience to help nearly a dozen students achieve a mean score improvement of 13.6 points between their diagnostic and final score.
Every student is different, and I strive to understand their goals and craft a study plan that leverages the study resources and learning methods that best fulfill their unique needs. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like additional information!" less...
