"Hello! My name is Sian. Over the years, I've helped hundreds of students, and I'm excited to work with you next. I’m here to help with your high school and college-level English classes and assignments. I know how to help you succeed in your English assignments and classes because I was once the person grading and teaching them.
I can help you write stylish and clear prose, conduct sophisticated literary analysis, or produce a well-organized research paper full of smart ideas thanks to my scholarly background. I have a BA in English Literature from King's College London, an MA in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD in English Literature from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I also worked as the Head of Communications for a Chicago-based organization, where I wrote and edited a weekly newsletter sent to 8000 readers.
I have taught and tutored high school and college-level students for 7 years. For six years, I taught composition, academic writing, and American, British, and post-colonial literature to university students.
I have extensive experience working with international students, mature students, and students who had been failed by a series of lazy English teachers! During the pandemic, I taught online for two years. I know how to keep students engaged through a screen. I also worked at my university's writing center as a composition coach. Prior to this, I tutored at a high school. I helped high schoolers with their English classes and assignments.
You will find our tutoring session to be engaging and useful. I develop customized lesson plans for each of my students. You’ll come away from my tutoring sessions feeling confident in your abilities and confident that you know what to do next. When we meet again, I’ll recap key concepts and ideas and begin by asking if there is anything you want to return to. I encourage my students to ask as many questions as possible. Past students have praised my kindness, and I have perfect scores on Rate My Professor!" less...
