"Hey there! I'm Derek, a twenty-nine year old attorney from northwest Indiana.

I have a bachelor's degree in political science from Indiana University. I have a Juris Doctor from DePaul College of Law. I am currently barred in Indiana and soon to be Illinois. I have tutored for over six years. I began as a private tutor quickly fell in love with it. In January 2019, I applied to Sylvan Learning Center where I spent almost three years before leaving to practice law.

During my time at Sylvan, I was one of four teachers chosen from all of northwest Indiana and Chicagoland to teach an ASVAB course at West Gary Highschool. I was responsible for teaching math and mechanical engineering to 111 students. At Sylvan, I specialized in ACT and SAT prep (all subjects) and mathematics at the high school and college level. I also tutored AP chemistry, AP physics, biology, Spanish, history, English, literature, and many others. I helped my students receive millions in scholarship money at some of the nation's top schools.

While my legal career takes up most of my time, I cannot find it in me to forego my first passion: tutoring. I have been an academia nut—ok fine, a nerd—since I could walk. Thanks to my perennial thirst for knowledge, I have developed a broad skillset and unique methods of learning. Over the past six years, I have optimized these methods to create a highly effective and distinct form of teaching. I have been told that I have an exceptional ability to relate with students in a manner unlike their everyday teachers. My methods are grounded in repairing root issues, rather than bandaging.
