"Hi, I am Karmen. Mathematics has always been one of my favorite things. I like the feeling of success when solving difficult problems. So in order to do math I chose a career teaching secondary mathematics. I have a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and a Masters degree in Education. I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and Precalculus with Trigonometry for 30 years. I love each of these, but my favorites are Geometry and Precalculus with Trigonometry. I know that tutoring and one on one time for math students is important. I always allowed my students time in class to begin their assignments and ask me questions one on one. I also offered tutoring for students to get additional one on one help.

In each tutoring session I can present a creative lesson with practice and help on a certain concept; assignment help can be given with questions and guidance so students can arrive at their own correct solutions with confidence or I can provide a practice assignment on a concept and work with the student to solve it successfully. I want the students I work with to be confident in their mathematical thinking. I will be open to methods and resources which will help achieve success.

I have experience in a college learning center tutoring math students of all ages in various degree paths. This was my first realization math anxiety existed. I worked with patience and kindness to help the students I tutored overcome math anxiety to complete their degrees. This made me a better teacher and tutoring became a joy to me. I enjoy seeing students get that ah-ha moment when a concept clicks for them.

During COVID I became skillful in tutoring students online one on one or in a small group. I ended up enjoying online tutoring and like that it is a way to bring math help to students in the comfort of their own home/space.
