"My objective is to make a positive difference in the lives of my students. I think I manage to do that more often than not.

My approach to tutoring is simple: I try to understand how a student is thinking. This can be done by sharing how I am thinking and invite the student to do the same. This is a collaborative process built on mutual trust.

I started tutoring in 2004, working with high school and middle school students who needed academic support in math. The objective was to improve their depth of knowledge and comprehension of math content so that they could gain confidence and improve their grades in school.

About a year later I began tutoring students for the ACT and SAT. Many of my students were not satisfied with the material in books from big box companies like Princeton Review and Barrons, so I started writing my own materials. Since then, my ACT and SAT books have sold more than 50,000 copies.

Tutoring for ACT and SAT is very different from from academic tutoring because the ACT and SAT tests are very different from tests that students take in school. Preparing for a standardized test is more like sports, where proper technique and repeated practices are key.

I have always enjoyed math and love to share that with my students. Students gain confidence as they find that, with some help and hard work, they can solve homework problems correctly. This confidence carries over to their performance on quizzes in test in school, creating a self-propelled upward cycle of learning and testing.

The key to understanding how to approach ACT science is to realize that it is not a science test. It does not test your scientific knowledge. The information needed to answer almost every question is contained in the passage.

Please get in touch to talk about your requirements and learn how I could help." less...
