"Hello! My name is James, and I will be offering maths tutoring in the eastern MA area for the near future. I have an academic background in Astrodynamics, a sub-discipline of Aerospace Engineering that focuses on trajectory/mission design problems in the space environment.

With respect to formal tutoring, I have mainly worked in 1-on-1 contexts with students age 10-20 on standardized test preparation. I scored an 800 on the standard SAT Math section as well as the Level 2 Subject test, and received a 168(/170) on the GRE Quant section.

Outside of 1-on-1 tutoring, I have spent a few months volunteering in a middle school math classroom (in Austin TX—Austin Partners in Education), working with small groups of 4-6, endeavoring to help the students keep pace with the curriculum.

Lastly, I will note that I have TA’d a number of upper-level undergraduate aerospace engineering courses (all at UT Austin), whose materials are underpinned by maths leading up to and including Calculus, Differential Equations, etc.

As a tutor, I focus on meeting the student where they are at, and collaborating to help them reach their educational goals. Externally, that may look like working together on example problems, or discussing related concepts. Internally, I am working on developing a model for how [student name] understands the material, so that I may better "speak their language", and illustrate concepts to them in a way that will more naturally connect with their current understanding of the important topics.

Let me conclude by saying that I love math generally, and I enjoy working with students, so would be excited to collaborate on any math goals. If you are a prospective parent or student, and have any question or comment, please feel encouraged to reach out! I would be happy to discuss and see if I am a good fit for what you are looking for.
