"Hello! My name is Bridger, and I recently moved to the Twin Cities after graduating from Eastern Oregon University. For five years, I worked as a tutor for the university's writing center. While there, I studied and put into practice both traditional and experimental tutoring methods, becoming one of the center's most effective and popular tutors. I also underwent specific training to meet the varied needs of both learning-disabled and ESL students.
College aside, I also have three years of experience tutoring independently, for a nonprofit, and as a homeschool teacher, plus four years of coaching high school speech & debate, as well as a lifetime's worth of assisting younger siblings with their studies. Additionally, I stay on the cutting-edge of tutoring innovations by attending annual conferences and frequent self-study.
My specialized subjects range anywhere from general reading and writing to very specific emphases, such as: long-form critical analysis, drama, journalism, literature, rhetoric, technical writing, public speaking, and argumentation.
In addition to these, I also have experience teaching and assisting with: Study Skills, History, Humanities, Mathematics, Philosophy, and Social Studies.
I am capable of tutoring in group settings, but generally much prefer individualized sessions.
As a tutor, I strongly believe in facilitating students' growth. My goal is not to simply improve scores on assignments, but rather to give students the tools they need to improve and succeed through our combined efforts and then eventually on their own. Prior to setting up tutoring appointments, I encourage parents or students to work with me in laying out expectations and goals, so we can create a personalized plan for academic success." less...
