"My post graduate experience in mathematics began in 1969 when I was employed as an engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company in Lester, Pa. I was involved in modeling turbine systems and my interest began to focus on probability and statistics. The company encouraged further education and I was happy to oblige them, attending Villanova University at night where I earned a Masters degree in Applied Statistics in 1972. I coauthored several papers that were published in math and statistics journals. In 1973 I changed career direction and started Temple Dental School, graduating in 1977. I practiced General Dentistry in Linwood, New Jersey until 2013 when I semi retired, but I never lost my love of mathematics.
My teaching experience consists of tutoring high school math after graduating from Penn State for several months until I started working at Westinghouse. I found this to be extremely gratifying, seeing the "light bulb turn on" when a student connected the scattered pieces and now understood not just how to plug numbers blindly into a formula, but WHY it works. Once this level of understanding is achieved, the ease in solving the problems and the good grades follow naturally.
