"I have been tutoring since I was 14. I graduated from Brandeis University as a linguistics major and math minor. I then earned my MA and PhD in Linguistic Anthropology from SUNY Albany. Outside of work, I love reading, acting, gaming, and I do a lot of mutual aid work. I spent 4 years as a teaching assistant for Introduction to Linguistics; and 13 years teaching reading skills to students of all ages, from approaching kindergarten, through middle and high school students (teaching classic works of fiction, textbooks, and note taking skills), up through adults. I also used to tutor math in high school, and as a past math minor am confident in my ability to teach both math and reading.
As a tutor, I work hard to identify the best approach to reach and connect with each student, a skill honed by my many years of teaching. My love of people leads me to strive to make my teaching fun and relaxed, creating an environment where students can learn and feel comfortable asking questions, knowing that I am listening. A past private school student, I know the challenges of college prep, and am very excited to work to help students through it. I can't wait to meet you all.
I have a math minor, and have been tutoring math since I was in high school. In math I love showing how math builds on itself and where formulas come from to make them more accessible.
I was also an ACT/SAT tutor for over 7 years, and a reading/writing teacher for 13.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I pride myself in tailoring my teaching to the individual student and would love to talk things over with you." less...
