"I have a College education in Geology, Meteorology and Technical Communications. As a Writing Center tutor, I focused on teaching through editing. Most assignments followed the 5 Paragraph Essay Format. We were also trained to perform different levels of editing as required.

I specialized in ESL students as a writing tutor. Among the walk-in students, I had 2 Japanese students for 2 years and a deaf student that would only work with me. I was also accepted as a Geology and Meteorology Tutor by the respective programs. The Peer Mentor program focused on ESL and returning students with a priority on time management for students/life.

I also took a class that solely consisted of writing a 28 -32 page research paper. Proper citations were a high percentage of the grade. Another interesting class I had was Symbolic Logic

I got a scholarship to attend New Mexico Tech for Technical Communications. I continued working at this Writing Center, and got a reputation for editing Theses for ESL students. I also edited a book on Orchid seed propagation.

An amateur Astronomer for about 50 years I have also studied Meteorology, Geology, Black Holes, Artificial Intelligence (since about 1976), and basic Cosmology. I worked for MIT as an observer and data analyst in their asteroid detection program (LINEAR). I used my Tech Editing and Writing skills at all those jobs. As a student , I edited Test Reports for EMRTC.

My tutoring has been one-on-one and focused on learning or study practices. My training as a Peer Mentor and Tutor has taught me how different learning styles require different tutoring methods. There was also a high priority placed on helping ESL students because there were efforts to help Hmong, Vietnamese, Eastern Europeans, and Somalis escape political persecution.
