"Hello my name is Eleanna!
I am hearing, I love ASL and the deaf community.
Since I was little, I have had a growing desire to learn ASL. I was blessed with the opportunity to study the language and deaf culture. I knew I didn’t want the “typical career path”; I wanted to become an ASL tutor and interpreter!
I have been studying American Sign Language at a college level for the past 4 years. I have my Associates and I am graduating this May with a Bachelors in Deaf Studies with an emphasis in Interpretation. I regularly attend workshops to improve my ASL and interpreting skills. I passed my knowledge exam in May of 2024. This means I am comfortable with deaf culture and I know how to make good ethical decisions with the public. I participated in a micro immersive study abroad visit at Gallaudet University, the only Liberal Arts deaf college in the world. I intend to pursue my Masters in Emergency deaf services at Gallaudet in which all classes are taught in sign language. I am currently interpreting from ASL into English at my local deaf church. I also have several internships, one being interpreting at a school. This allows deaf students to learn any subject anywhere.
While attending school I experienced different teaching styles and I understand not every style works for every student so I know its important to adjust to how people individually learn. It can be challenging to navigate qualified teachers when it comes to learning a new language and thats why I am a good choice for you because I know the culture, language, and people. I have been trained to use materials and resources that are deaf approved. I can do all voice off lessons to really build receptive skills, or I can do just part of the lessons with voice off in order to practice your newly learned skills.
I can take students already studying, or those without any prior ASL knowledge. Whatever someone’s reason for learning sign language, I would love to adapt to topics, interests, basics, or intermediate skill!" less...
