"I'm Tracy and have over 20 years of experience as a high school teacher. My undergraduate degree is in Economics/Finance, however, after college, I realized I did not like being trapped in a cubicle all day. Upon recognizing my dissatisfaction with my work, I remembered enjoying substitute teaching in college. I decided to go back to school and get certified to teach. My certification is in Special Education. I co-teach Algebra 1 with another teacher and teach Algebra skills using various strategies to help students understand the concepts. I meet students where they are and use a lot of modeling and manipulatives when I can, however, the approach can always be differentiated to meet the student's needs.
I’m able to empathize with struggling learners. As a former student who had once struggled with the complexities of Algebra myself in middle school, I understand the frustrations and anxieties that often accompany the subject. My mother enrolled me in a summer math boot camp one summer and they taught me skills to make Algebra a conquerable challenge and boost my confidence. I believe in fostering a nurturing environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and embark on their unique mathematical journey at their own pace.
I believe that success lies not merely in test scores but in the profound impact of working hard at something challenging. My goal while tutoring is not merely teaching Algebra; but instilling in students a belief that they are capable of overcoming any obstacle with grit, resilience, and a dash of mathematical prowess. Feel free to contact me for scheduling if this is something you're looking for in a tutor." less...
