"As a classroom teacher for over 30 years, it has been my life's work to encourage young readers and writers through individual conferences and by conversations about books, literature, and learning.
I help teens find and express their unique voice and viewpoint, think outside the box, write outside comfort zones, and think about what good writers' words do in us.

I love to listen to what YOU have to say about the books you care about, the subjects that interest you, and the questions YOU have about literature, life, and the world around YOU. I help people enjoy both personal and school reading and writing.
During our tutoring time I ask you questions to help you revise your writing and re-think your interpretation of a play, poem, story, or nonfiction. I love seeing students come alive when they find an idea that really excites them.
I use tools such as art, apps, conversation, and interactive journals to help teens learn. Since I have years of experience helping people write, revise, edit, and publish their writing, I will use my background not to correct your mistakes, but to give you meaningful feedback that will help you improve immediately, and tools that will help you succeed as a writer.
I help with inquiry papers and multi-genre research. I have presented at national conferences for AP and English teachers, am involved in a project called WritingHopeWorks, and with the Conference on English Leadership. I have been editor of Utah English Journal.
I have been NEH Scholar on Border Narratives and 21st Century literacy in El Paso, focused on Latino/a Scribes. I have also studied philosophy, theology, politics, and history. I am committed to anti-racist teaching.
If you are inspired to ask me even ONE question about my approach, or would like to set up a meeting time or online session, please contact me right now. I have seen so many kids who are discouraged by school - I would like to help you take control of your learning, set some goals, and reach them." less...
