"I am a graduate of Haverford College, B.A. Mathematics, Minor in Education, and Certification in Secondary Math Education. I have worked with students in various classrooms in Philadelphia, PA, College Station, TX, and currently Indianapolis, IN. I feel passionate about helping others learn math because I understand what it is like to feel like you are not a "math person" and the incredible growth that can come from the right math mentors. I was someone who personally struggled in math throughout my elementary school years. With the help of some great teachers and their individualized teaching methods, I was able to proudly state that "I AM a math person." I feel so passionately about teaching and tutoring because I genuinely want students to feel that "aha" moment that I felt as I was developing as a learner. Now I understand math fluidly, to the point that I have a degree in this field from one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country. I am patient, helpful, and empathetic to individual student needs. I can take that math student who says they are "just not a math person" and give them the skills they need to feel like they will succeed in any math classroom. I know how frustrating it is to be in their shoes, and I am willing to help. I understand that all students learn differently, and I am eager to provide differentiated instruction. From verbal learners to hands-on learners to visual learners and anyone in between, I will help my pupil learn math skills in a way that makes sense to them. I can tailor my tutoring to help students succeed based on what works for them individually.
Additionally, I take a holistic approach to tutoring; I help with organizational skills, advise students on how to get through tricky homework problems, and help students alleviate test anxiety, as these are essential components in academic success. If necessary, I can provide extra help mechanisms outside of class in the form of skill building practice problems, worksheets, or anything that may help your student su" less...
