"Hi, and thank you for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Tim, and I am constantly in awe of the natural world around me, and my enthusiasm is contagious! Prior to teaching, I was employed as an environmental scientist and specialized in coastal restoration, soil science, fishway restoration, and wetland science. However, the work left me a bit unfulfilled, and the call to teach science kept going through my head. Since changing careers, I have been employed with the same district since 2007 and have taught middle school and high school. I specialize in biology, ecology, and AP environmental science. I know enough chemistry to tutor basic high school chemistry. I am a skilled technical/scientific writer and offer support and proofreading for lab reports.

As a teacher, I love watching my students go through the process of science. Seeing a student begin to make observations , ask questions, and then attempt to make sense of those observations is greatly satisfying. Learning science content is important, but I place more value on helping my students to become curious about their world and to develop their critical thinking skills.

Although I am no longer employed as a professional scientist, my passion for science can't keep me from the field. I have worked with environmental education programs, performed horseshoe crab population surveys, and I served on a local land trust. I have successfully taught all levels of students (standard, honors and advanced placement), helping them to not only pass their course and standardized test, but also to appreciate the life sciences. In addition to middle and high school, I have taught online graduate classes on science education.
