In college I had a very fun and engaging physical science teacher that really helped me see that Physics can explain the real world around me through actually observing these things happening. I decided I wanted to study to become a teacher like that. I changed my major to Physical Science teaching, a Bachelors of Science degree I earned from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT in 2005 and loved the geology, chemistry, and geology courses I took there.
After graduation I moved to Texas I got certified to teach physical sciences in Texas and have been continuously employed teaching a range of courses from IPC (Integrated Physics & Chemistry) to 1st year Chemistry to On-level Physics, pre-AP Physics, and now have been teaching AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2 since 2014.
My favorite things about teaching is seeing student build confidence as they have "ah-ha moments." I love to use viral videos to show Physics principles in action, have many hands on activities I can have students do to build experiences as anchors or Physics concepts, and have many memory tricks and strategies that can help students remember what I teach. I often include humor, always include patience, and validation for students doing their best work in all my interactions.
I spent 2 years living in Venezuela in my late teens and consider my accent to a one of my strengths. That is why I chose to minor in Spanish teaching while in college. I taught the equivalent of Spanish 1-2 for a year in a private setting while enrolled in college and was certified to teach Spanish when I graduated, but only in Utah. I did not choose to transfer my certification in Spanish teaching form Utah, so I am not currently certified to teach it in public schools, but am still a fluent Spanish speaker." less...
