"I am a certified high school science and engineering teacher with over 20 years of experience, both in public and private schools. For the past 18 years I have been a member of the North Kingstown High School Science department. I also taught at Austin Preparatory School, a private, co-ed catholic school in Reading, Massachusetts, for 5 years. My teaching/tutoring experience includes Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, and Robotics. I am also a certified Project Lead the Way (PLTW) teacher for Engineering Essentials, Principles of Engineeringn and Digital Electronics, all courses within the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering Curriculum.
Students in my classes perform well on their respective end of course assessments and always come back to me saying that by taking my class in high school they were well prepared for the same course in college. Over the past 3 years I have a 95% passing rate (3 or higher) of students who I would recommend take the AP Physics 1 exam, with 70% of them scoring a 4 or 5. This compares to the 40% of students who take the exam world wide that score a 3 or higher, and 20% who score a 4 or higher. As for my Principles of Engineering (PLTW) Students, 90% of my students are proficient on the End of Course Assessment (4 or higher).
My philosophy in tutoring is to try to get to know a student and what it takes for them to understand the topics at hand, understanding that this may change from course to course or topic to topic. From there I aim to have students personalize the concepts while understanding the "why's" rather than the "what's". I feel that this method will make a student understand the principles and be able to apply them to different themes and topics within a course.
I am available for tutoring during after school and evening hours, both in person and online. I also offer group rates to students within the same class." less...
