"I graduated from the University of Oregon in 1981, took the Foreign Service Exam, and served from 1984 to 1994. I worked in Haiti, Togo, and Guinea for the State Department and Peace Corps. I went to graduate school and got my Ph.D. in 1997. I have worked directly with students both as a classroom teacher and tutoring individuals seeking advanced degrees ever since.
I have taught diverse groups of students at several institutions. My principal employer for most of this time has a student body that is over 50% non-native English speakers. Clackamas Community College has many non-native English speakers and also attracts many students under 18 . I have also taught internationally, at the National University of Burkina Faso in Africa. In that role, I have been responsible for directing dissertation and thesis projects and for classroom teaching in French.
I have also worked for eight years for the College Board, grading the AP World History exam. I am also qualified to grade the AP US History exam.
I know the subject well. My dissertation and scholarly publications have focused on African-descended people in the Americas, so I can offer detailed insight into African-American and Latino studies. However, I have taught the full range of college history survey classes - European, US, and World - and can help with those subjects as well. My most recent Ph.D. student did his dissertation in English letters, looking at the correspondence of George Washington and the influence of Christian and secular philosophy in his thought. Finally, my theoretical approach combines aspects of anthropology and geography, and I have taught Human Geography at the college level, so I could tutor general Social Studies .
In addition to online tutoring, I am able to help with research papers at any stage in the process from picking a subject to final editing.
I look forward to helping students achieve success in their historical or social science studies at all levels from secondary school to graduate study." less...
