"Hi, I’m Dan! I graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology, Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology, and a cluster in Moral Ethics. I am currently a Master’s Student in the Biomedical Sciences Program at the University of Pittsburgh. I am looking to apply to medical schools this upcoming cycle in May.
Throughout my years of schooling, I have had a variety of professors, tutors, and educators. In college, I served as a teaching assistant where I taught “mini-courses” developing my own curriculum and assessments. Through these experiences, I learned that knowledge and skill come with practice and discipline, but more importantly, it is the teacher that fosters engagement and enthusiasm to learn. I strive to implement this in all of my lessons to ensure that students feel welcome and ready to learn. Before starting any topic, it is important to understand a student’s baseline knowledge because having a strong foundation supports continuous learning and excellence. After we establish a baseline, I will teach the topics in a digestible and fun way (Yes, learning can be fun!) that connects the students’ interests with the material. To address the flexibility required for the various learning styles of each student, I ask all of my students to fill out a simple survey about their learning habits, preferences, and main goals. I am happy to meet more frequently to ensure that we do not fall behind or if we need to reinforce a previous topic. In addition to normal sessions, I will also host office hours on a need basis to go over homework or other assignments as well.
Scoring a perfect score in SAT math and Math Subject II exams as well as 5 on AP CALC BC, and I am confident that I can teach Algebra I, II, pre-calculus, and calculus. As for science topics, I scored a 5 on AP Biology, and a 5 on AP Chem, graduated college with honors, and feel confident teaching any level of Biology class, Chemistry, and Physics." less...
