"I've been teaching students from elementary school through adulthood since I was twelve years old. In that time, I've found that students improve the most when they are active participants in every stage of the learning process. I am a full National Merit Scholar and earned perfect scores on many standardized tests: SAT 2400, ACT 36, SAT II Physics 800, SAT II Molecular Biology 800, SAT II Math Level 2 800, AP Calculus AB 5, AP Calculus BC 5, and AP Statistics 5. I was offered admission to ten top universities, including Caltech, MIT, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, and Harvey Mudd, and attended Caltech.
I have been tutoring full time for eight years, having tutored part time for seven years previously. Throughout my experience as a tutor, I have helped students master school assignments and prepare for tests, drilled topics and sample questions for standardized exams (including SAT, SAT II, ACT, GRE and TOEFL), advised for and critiqued individual and team projects, and provided preparation and enrichment courses for subjects from 6th grade life science to AP Physics and much more.
Many of the most popular subjects among my students (especially in STEM) challenge learners to reason in new ways as well as applying prior knowledge, so I make sure to test understanding regularly by discussing examples and assigning practice problems. I only move on from a topic once I'm sure the student can explain and apply its content in every necessary context. My students often say they went from following rules by rote to having a firm grasp on the underlying concepts. I have a friendly, approachable style, and work hard to make even the most daunting topics relatable. Learning should be fun and rewarding, not something to be dreaded.
Please feel free to get in touch so we can discuss your needs and goals, and how I can address them. I'm looking forward to working with you." less...
