"Hello! I am a tutor with a background in software engineering, having worked in the industry for six and a half years. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2014 and transitioned from a path in medicine to software engineering, which I find rewarding. Currently, I am available to tutor students who resonate with my teaching style. I have tutored algebra 2, calculus, physics, and test prep (MCAT / GRE) in the past.
My teaching philosophy centers on empowering students to take ownership of their learning. Transitioning into software engineering without a formal background required me to develop strong self-learning skills, which has shaped my approach to teaching.
Teaching Style
1. Problem-Based Learning: I believe an effective way to organize knowledge is in the format of working through a set of canonical problems. This can also help build a sense of momentum through what can be a difficult subject.
2. Socratic Method: I have a more conversational rather than a lecture style of teaching. I focus on helping students explore their reasoning process, offering feedback to refine their understanding. I prioritize critical thinking and problem-solving over rote memorization.
3. Psychological Safety: I strive to create a learning environment where you feel free to ask questions, make mistakes, and explore topics without fear of judgment or harsh negative reinforcement. My priority is your engagement and effort, as I believe this fosters meaningful progress.
Please note, I cannot assist with specific homework assignments or projects in a way that would violate academic honesty policies. My focus is on helping you develop the skills and understanding needed to succeed independently.
Finally, I'm a new tutor on this platform and am actively working on developing new material. To make the most of our sessions, please feel free to share any relevant background information about your engagement with the subject and/or curriculum. This will be helpful to me in preparing for our sessions." less...
