"Hello, my name is Carlos, and I am a music composition major at Ball State University. As I approach my final year, I am eager to share my passion for classical music and music theory with my peers. Over the past four years, I have honed my skills as a composer and had the privilege of seeing my work performed. I am committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where we can all learn and grow together. In the past six months, I have taken on the role of a tutor, offering both group and individual sessions to my fellow colleagues, and the experience has been incredibly rewarding. I am excited about the opportunity to continue guiding and inspiring others in their musical journey.
I would hold theory sessions at night in our university band room since that was the only time we could all meet, given our busy schedules. I also made one-on-one sessions with each of them throughout the day to accommodate their availability. It was an interesting experience because many of my friends dislike music theory as they prefer practicing and playing their instruments. However, it always felt rewarding to see my friends understand a difficult topic that I enjoy. Furthermore, for my friends who want to pursue composition as a hobby, I enjoyed seeing them create works that they were satisfied with. Some of them even had the privilege of having one or two of their pieces performed, which made them happy.
Ultimately, I am glad to be able to support my peers in their musical endeavors, whether behind the curtain or in the audience. I have written many pieces for my friends and colleagues, and they all seem to enjoy them. Assisting them with both composition and theory keeps me motivated in my own musical journey. I strive to create a caring, growth-oriented, and understanding environment.
I offer one, free 30 minute informational meeting before lessons start." less...
