"Everything comes down to history for me. I've been a history geek for my my entire life (or at least since age 4, since I don't remember my life before that). My idea of fun is to read history (currently on Robert Caro's biography of Lyndon Johnson, Volume 4). I've tutored history for high school and college students for three years, I've done archival history work for the New York Historical Society and Harvard Business school, and I've read more history. Since then, I've also tutored English, and taught such odd subjects as children's theater and the board game Go.

All my tutoring experience before WyzAnt is through friend-of-a-friend links. I've never gotten a gig by being assigned by a computer (or by an agency that doesn't know me), which is why I'm on WyzAnt -- so the student and I can decide whether we're a good match. I always want to get to know my students well.

My way of teaching is simple -- I don't want to spoon-feed people answers, leaving them unable to come up with any the next time they have a paper to write. I should be helping people figure out the answers themselves. Every session with me (in history, English, theater, or Go) is me asking questions, until it switches on the light bulb in the student's head.
