In contrast to many instructors, I understand what it's like to struggle with or be disinterested in math. I never would have imagined I would get involved in research or graduate studies in math, but I discovered an incredibly rich and varied discipline with exciting applications everywhere you look. (For example, the mathematical foundations of LLMs/generative AI/supervised machine learning are essentially applications of multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and probability.)
