"I have over a decade of experience tutoring and teaching math through advanced* undergraduate level. My students and clients have consistently praised my patience and clarity. While a mathematics lecturer and TA at the University of Maryland, I received a Gold Medal in Teaching Excellence and a plethora of glowing student evaluations. As instructor and course designer for Duke TIP, I taught an intensive summer enrichment program for high school students on the mathematics of voting systems.
My approach is to help build strong intuition and understanding alongside computational proficiency. With a solid conceptual framework, you will memorize less yet be more prepared to tackle a wide array of problems, including ones you haven't seen before. This is a crucial skill for exams and, more importantly, problem-solving in the real world. If you want someone who emphasizes memorizing formulas, look elsewhere!
In contrast to many instructors, I understand what it's like to struggle with or be disinterested in math. I never would have imagined I would get involved in research or graduate studies in math, but I discovered an incredibly rich and varied discipline with exciting applications everywhere you look. (For example, the mathematical foundations of LLMs/generative AI/supervised machine learning are essentially applications of multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and probability.) I can't promise that you'll fall in love with the subject the way I did, but most of my clients come away with a sense that they've learned something valuable and with a deeper understanding than they would have attained on their own.
*If you need assistance with more advanced topics than those listed on my profile, just ask. There's a good chance I'll be able to help, and I'll be honest when I can't. I have helped math majors and both undergraduate and graduate students in STEM disciplines on a range of topics, including real analysis, complex analysis, abstract algebra, theory of computation, and introduction to proofs." less...
