"I am Cleveland-based, award-winning drummer and percussionist. I played my first professional gig at age of 9. In 2002 I was named runner-up in the Guitar Center National Drum-Off. From then on, I became a widely sought sideman with Jazz, Blues, Rock and Funk outfits in my hometown of Cleveland. I have carved out a professional career, regularly performing and recording and touring 150+ engagements a year with acclaimed songwriters and producers from around the country.
In 2016, I graduated from the New School in New York City, and I have studied with world renowned drummers and musicians. As an educator, I have taught private and group lessons for Jazz at Lincoln Center's Middle School and High School Jazz Academies and WeBop, an early childhood music development class with a focus on jazz performance. I also teach through my private studio and at local music stores. I specialize in teaching approaches to Rock, Jazz, Funk and Afro-Cuban.
"Good sound and good time" is my musical credo, and I believe these can be achieved by developing strong fundamentals, critical and active listening skills and the ability to read music. Then, exploring your own creativity and individual personality and the historical and cultural contexts of the particular styles addressed. I want to not only develop your abilities as a drummer/musician, but also to become a more thoughtful and empathetic person.
With my students, I seek to develop strong fundamental techniques - mastery of the rudiments, critical and active listening skill and the ability to play with a metronome. Next, I approach the ability to read notated music as another fundamental for becoming a well-rounded musician/drummer. I wish to cultivate one's love of music performance through interactive and personalized lesson plans. If your fundamentals are already strong and are just looking to prepare for auditions, getting that perfect drum sound, or to learn that one tune that's giving you trouble, I'm here to help. I can't wait to be a part of your journey!" less...
