"I am a student at Edmonds College studying to be a choir teacher! My main focus is music, but I did excel in math, and would be happy to tutor anybody who's in an Algebra 1 (9th grade) course or lower. I'm using tutoring as a way to practice for career, and of course because I love helping people grow!
I've been musically inclined all my life; I've always been the first one to do karaoke even as a kid, but once I got to high school I was committed to our choir program, it was my favorite thing on the world. My senior year, I was in 3 different groups, and scored 2nd place for alto solos in the regional competition. My teacher was very focused in music theory and ear training, so unlike a lot of high school choirs, I came out of high school with a lot more knowledge in theory than most. Now, I perform with my peers in my college’s jazz choir, where my classmates and I get many opportunities to clinic and run workshops at high school vocal jazz festivals!
My tutoring approach is more than just learning the facts. I teach to inspire. I don't want my students to just memorize information that they will forget once it's irrelevant to their studies, I want them to truly understand it and see how it all comes together. I've tutored younger siblings and family members this way, and they all enjoy it. I also believe it is extremely important to understand that every person learns a different way, which is why I always make sure to try my best to not think about myself and the way I learn when teaching, but rather think about the student and what learning strategies and techniques work for them. I use this when teaching other subjects like math and English, not just music!
I'm very excited for us to work together! Since I am in college and working, my schedule may be different depending on the week, so let’s work out a time together that works best :)" less...
