"I have over a decade worth of teaching and tutoring experience at UC Berkeley. My favorite classes to teach are those that integrate a wide variety of disciplines, like anatomy, molecular and cell biology labs, and that is partly why I love biology—specifically neuroscience—so much. It’s beautiful since it integrates so many disciplines, and requires building a good narrative, a model, to understand. Thus, while at Berkley, I earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. I have finished Ph.D. coursework and and qualifying exams, but am finishing my dissertation on neurotrauma.
I was able to succeed by doing problem sets, particularly focusing on meaningful problems (and not necessarily quantity). Having a clear mental model of the system helps me understand the question, to break it down and systematically solve it. Having a clear mental model reduces anxiety and builds the confidence needed to tackle problems with a clear mind, so practice becomes much easier and often times fun.
I have developed, practiced, and tested many strategies that, when used, will help you be a successful student, even for things that do unfortunately require brute force memorization. I have worked with hundreds of students, and hope to bring my experience and perspective to make whatever you're struggling with engaging, manageable, and possibly even fun. Today, I find myself studying math just for the pleasure of it and applying those principle to my experiments.
I look forward to helping you eliminate fear and frustration and make your learning a hero’s journey of discovery and wonder." less...
