"I double-majored in Chemistry and English at the University of Buffalo, and then completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley. My postdoctoral work was in the Department of Bioengineering at Stanford University.
I've since tutored and taught general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, and chemical biology for more than a dozen years, including well over a thousand hours in office hours (basically one-on-one and small-group tutoring).
I view my role as a coach, there to help anyone advance, and I'm glad to help at any stage from "I'm so lost HELP!" to "I need help with these two hard questions on the practice test."
Getting the grade you want means answering problems, and I'm focused on making that happen. I’ll give you color-coded flash cards and lots of practice problems with detailed answer keys. That way you can work through the extra problems on your own time and come to the session time you pay for with the questions that were most difficult for *you*.
Students know more than they think they do, but some details are missing or unclear, leading to low confidence. I often lead with a "if I just got to the test and blanked out on this type of question, how would I start answering it?" That type of approach builds confidence for the realistic situation that every successful MD/PhD/JD/etc. has ever been in many times--blanking on a test!
Lastly, professors often jump back and forth between problems of very different difficulty. That way it's hard to see how the difficulty level just has increments and once you know all the steps you’re ready for anything.
I'll work with you to make sure that you’re ready not just for the questions you've seen, but also for common tricks that make problems harder on tests. Having written many hundreds of actual college-level chemistry test questions I know the types of tricky variants that usually pop up.
If you feel lost, I'm here to help and I look forward to working with you!" less...
