"My name is Santiago and I am currently finishing school at Berklee Online as a Guitar Performance Major with a focus on blues and jazz. I hold a 4.0 GPA with a scholarship because I truly love playing the guitar and all things music. I currently teach at a private music school in NY and have years of 1 on 1 teaching experience. Some of my strengths as a music teacher include a strong ability to teach music theory step by step, I am a patient teacher, and I appreciate and teach many genres of music as well as finger style guitar playing. I have experience teaching kids as young as 6 as well as adults of any age.
Studying with me usually starts by understanding what your musical goals are, such as do you want to understand what is going on within the music and learn music theory? Music theory helps us understand important things like harmony and how to find all the chords that fit together and why they fit together as well as making sense of when "rules" are "broken" and how to be able to express ourselves with improvisation over harmony(chords). I want to understand what your musical inspirations are and what parts of their playing you would like to absorb into your own playing and/or musical knowledge. I find that learning solo's from our inspirations is one of the best ways to learn the language of the music you love. Being able to play, study, and reinterpret music from our inspirations will make you a better musician. Along the way I will help adjust your technique wherever may be needed to help make chords, scales, improvisation, etc. come easier, feel comfortable and give guidance as to what is the next step to achieve your musical goals. I will share all of the practice exercises that have helped me with concepts such as phrasing, improvisation, learning the fretboard, hearing the different qualities of chords and scales, and anything else that you are interested in. Lessons are only as serious as you want them to be depending on your musical goals. Lets make some cool sounds!" less...
