"I am an elementary school educator with over 20 years of experience in bilingual and dual language programs. I have worked as a classroom teacher, Bilingual Reading Specialist (English/Spanish), and English Learner Resource Teacher. I have also taught English as a Second Language classes to adults.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, sewing, and spending time outdoors. I am a lifelong learner, and even after obtaining my masters degree I continue to pursue opportunities to keep up with current research and hone my teaching skills. What I enjoy most about tutoring is tailoring my instruction to the needs of individual students, and seeing their confidence grow as they experience success.
My strengths include the ability to develop fun, engaging lessons that build upon what a student already knows while targeting their areas of need. Through assessment and observation I am able to identify a student’s areas of strength and to tailor lessons to their abilities and interests.
In addition to an elementary teaching license, I have an endorsement in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language. I also have a great deal of experience working with second language learners, both children and adults. As an adult, I myself am learning Italian and ASL, so I understand how it feels to learn an additional language. This has helped me to better understand the struggles that language learners can experience and has helped me to realize the importance of meeting students where they are and creating fun learning experiences that help them feel comfortable and to build upon what they know.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, and am certified to teach Spanish as a Foreign Language to students in grades K-9. I have also spent time living, studying, and teaching in Central and South America." less...
