"I've had a long history of learning, including earning a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's degree in business. From my learning, I've developed great skills at teaching.
In my engineering degree, I focused on bioengineering. This has provided me with an in-depth understanding of biology and biological systems, which includes subjects such as chemistry, physics, and, of course, advanced mathematics.
Years after acquiring the engineering degree, and after working in the technology industry, I acquired a master's degree in business administration, an MBA. The greatest feat of learning that I experienced in getting the MBA was to perform academic research that included statistical analysis. Besides being published as a master's thesis, my research won first place in the Student Research Competition of the California State University system in 2006. Furthermore, my research was published in a peer-reviewed international journal.
From all those learning experiences, I became adept at explaining and teaching the topics that I had to learn. I've had numerous opportunities to teach over the years, mostly with elementary and high school students. The range of environments where I've taught has been very meaningful to me.
One environment was working with junior high school students who were considered "at risk" due to the area where they lived. My success in helping those students to learn basic computer skills was based on understanding what they were already familiar with, and coming up with ways to relate the computer topics to their knowledge. As this took place in a bilingual region, my language skills in English and Spanish were very helpful.
As with the younger students, I also related new topics to the knowledge of the adults who I've taught. As always, I tried making topics such as graphic design, web programming, and Artificial Intelligence fun and interesting to learn.
I look forward to teaching new students, and in turn, I look forward to learning new ways to teach." less...
