"I graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University and Barrett, The Honors College with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences (Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior). I am a recipient of the Moeur Award granted by the ASU Alumni Association, which recognizes “exceptional academic achievement” and is awarded to students who graduate with the highest academic standing in terms of GPA. In college, I helped incoming students and their families during new student orientation and helped college students succeed academically as a peer mentor for different university courses. After college, I taught biology and earth science to small cohorts of fifth and sixth-grade students. The opportunity to use my knowledge and understanding to enhance the knowledge and understanding of others brings me fulfillment. My hope is that I can help you better understand biology and chemistry, increase your academic confidence, and earn stellar grades.
My approach to mentorship and teaching is based on personalization and multimodality, which I have refined over the course of three semesters as an undergraduate teaching assistant and two quarters as a middle school science teacher. I like to use digital flashcards, visual representations, videos, and informal assessments to help students master science vocabulary and concepts. I like to help students master computational problem-solving by allowing them to work independently and coaching them toward efficiency and accuracy. In a typical tutoring session, I like to follow an I do-you do-we do format that features a mix of direct instruction, tutor-facilitated independent work, and coaching through practice questions and problem sets.
I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible. Therefore, I strive to teach in a way that is easy to understand and engaging. I am beyond willing to share the tools, techniques, and strategies that allowed me to distinguish myself academically throughout high school and college." less...
