"I am currently a high school chemistry teacher at Don Bosco Prep, a private salesian high school for young men. This year I have spent some time tutoring students for the NYS regents exam in Biology and Chemistry. I am currently pursuing my Ed.D in special education at Southeastern Nova University. The most rewarding part of tutoring is the "Aha" moment when a student understands a concept he or she was previously struggling with.
I have my Ms.ED in adolescence education with a concentration in biology and a dual certification in students with disabilities. I have taught Biology in the past but am currently a Chemistry teacher. My students complete a variety of labs throughout the year and I make the learning process as enjoyable and fun as possible.
I have an advanced regents diploma myself and bring a tremendous compilation of regents questions to my students to familiarize them with not only the content but the type of questions they can expect on the exam. Standardized tests are very intimidating and I try to make my students as comfortable as possible with the material. There are two important factors that go into a successful regents exam: understanding the content and understanding how to take the exam.
As I worked towards my masters degree, I was the president of the Council for Exceptional Children for the Rockland County Chapter 1229. I then advanced to become the central western representative of CEC for the entire state of New York. I have a presentation on accessibility in the classroom for students with physical disabilities at the state conference in 2014. I have a brother with an IEP and another brother with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy so I am able to see 2 different perspectives; that of an educator and also of a family member. I am currently 1 of 2 special education teachers at my current job.
