"Hi, I’m Cortney! I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology as well as Honors in Microbiology. I bring 6 years of tutoring experience that began during my undergraduate studies. I tutored various biology and chemistry courses through my university's learning center and earned Level 2 certification through the College Reading and Learning Association’s (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program. I was also selected as a supplemental instructor for Organic Chemistry I & II due to my strong performance in these courses. In this role, I conducted review sessions, collaborated closely with professors, and became a key resource for students beyond the classroom.
In addition to university tutoring, I’ve tutored nationally and internationally through other platforms, helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.
My tutoring style emphasizes self-learning through active engagement. Rather than lecturing, I interact with students to keep them involved and ensure they truly understand the material. When students ask questions, I guide them to the answer by posing additional questions, leading them to solve problems independently.
With extensive experience in tutoring organic chemistry, I incorporate numerous practice problems, which I believe are crucial for mastering the subject. If students want to review specific topics, I start with an overview and then work through practice problems together. I then allow them to solve additional problems on their own, and we review their answers, discussing each one in detail.
This approach has proven effective, as I’ve seen many of my students make significant progress, becoming more independent and developing a deep understanding of the concepts." less...
