"Hi, I'm Rebecca! Whether teaching biology at Trinity School or tutoring high school and college students in biology, physiology, and genetics for the past 5+ years - I'm invigorated and inspired by working with students to understand complex concepts and seeing their passion for biology ignite.
I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2022 with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Bioethics. I took a rigorous course load, including topics such as: molecular genetics, evolution, cell biology, vertebrate physiology, cancer biology, immunology, neurobiology, and many more. While in Philly, I volunteered in the local public schools, running biology laboratory activities and providing 1-on-1 tutoring to students. Afterwards, I spent 2 years conducting independent immunology research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, resulting in two major publications in the journal Nature. Most recently, I began teaching full time at Trinity School NYC, where I lead multiple sections of 11th and 12th grade advanced biology.
In my experience, I have become well acquainted with students who have different learning styles. My approach prioritizes adapting to each student's unique learning style—whether it means engaging in active discussions, creating visual aids like diagrams and flowcharts, or developing practice quizzes to reinforce understanding. Additionally, many of the high school students I worked with in West Philadelphia were from underprivileged communities and had specific needs that traditional tutors could not address. From this experience, I have become adept at considering my tutees as full individuals with complex and diverse backgrounds as opposed to merely students of a particular subject.
As both a student and a tutor, I know that learning biology can feel frustrating at times, and I am committed to making the subject not only manageable but also engaging and enjoyable. If my approach to teaching sounds like a good fit for you, I’d love to connect!" less...
