"I love talking about science! Whether it's helping students master challenging concepts for tests, or inspiring students to explore the fascinating and fun world of science, I am here to help.
I bring over 20 years of experience in biochemistry and neuroscience, with a deep understanding of biological, biochemical, genomic, and neuroscience concepts and principles. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Genomics and Pharmacology. I have published many first-author and co-authored publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, written chapters for multiple textbooks, as well as been awarded patents for creative ideas.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I first began tutoring high school students in math and biology when I was a college grad and later instructed Neuroanatomy labs in graduate school. I have mentored many many undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students in research settings at top tier institutions, helping students master key concepts and principles, and excel in their projects. To further enhance my ability to support my students, I am actively pursuing Teacher Certification in Secondary Science to pursue teaching full-time.
My approach to tutoring is to prioritize comprehension of key concepts and principles, over rogue memorization. The goal is to build understanding as well as confidence in students' abilities. In my personalized approach to helping students, the first step is to identify knowledge or skill gaps, then close those gaps through interactive pre-teaching, and then finally put the new knowledge into action. I believe learning should be fun and engaging, and that instruction should be student centered. This approach can be applied whether you are preparing for a specific test, or whether you are catching up on a unit. Whatever you need, I am very flexible and look forward to working with you." less...
