"I’m Kacee and I love books! I’m a certified teacher who’s been teaching and tutoring for the past 10 years. I specialize in working with 1st-8th grade students who need help filling basic skill gaps and boosting their reading analysis skills. I’m also all about making reading fun, engaging, and accessible! I’ve logged hundreds of hours of test prep and vocabulary instruction, and am happy to help with tackling book reports, reading homework, book club prep, and more.
Becoming a good reader is about both increased volume and targeted skill application. A 1st grade story might have one main character with one big problem, while an 8th grade story might have two main characters with multiple problems. Foundational character analysis skills can be applied in both contexts, however, because “getting to know your main character” at any level requires noticing what they do and say. My job is to help your student develop reading skills that will be applicable in any context and at every level, and to give them tons of practice doing it.
I absolutely love working with kids, and my structured approach to teaching keeps things interesting yet focused. I start with an attention-grabbing “hook” to introduce the material. Next, we’ll read together for a bit, I’ll teach/model, and your student will practice while I give targeted feedback and support tailored to their needs. Before we end, they’ll complete a mini assessment (not graded) to see how well they mastered the concept and to determine our next steps.
Because I’ve taught for years, my materials have undergone multiple rounds of revision. I’ve worked with special-needs students in both whole-class and small-group settings, so my lessons have scaffolding already built-in, and I’m good at anticipating students’ errors and planning for them in advance. That being said, every student is unique! I welcome your input as to the best method/fit for your individual child. Contact me to talk about books, reading, or anything literacy-related, and let’s schedule a lesson so" less...
