"I studied at Tufts and Hillsdale under some of the world's finest professors, including Felipe Fernández-Armesto, a leading global historian and one of the West’s greatest authors. Under his and many other scholars’ guidance, I earned a BA, MA, and PhD in history and became an expert in collegiate reading and writing skills. I instruct students in how to interrogate texts using the Socratic Method and in how to craft superb prose, while at the same time providing subject expertise in Global History and numerous sub-fields. I am especially adept at asking the right questions and finding the correct approaches to difficult, thorny problems, and I am known for my unusually well-developed professorial capacities. Having me as your private tutor will be a lot like having a university professor in that role!

I have 6 years' experience as a teaching assistant at Tufts, during which time I regularly tutored students on a one-on-one basis. I also have had my own tutoring business in the Traverse City area for 5 years now, but I’m branching out to Wyzant to access a deeper pool of students.

I'm a bona fide expert in Global History, which as I like to say is "The Science of Everything," and I'm exceptionally well-qualified to teach American, European, Far Eastern, and Early Modern History. I’m currently working on my first book, which will explore the intellectual, economic, artistic, and cultural exchanges between China and Europe during the eighteenth century. My dissertation, considerably narrower in scope, was entitled “The Chinese Influence on the Spanish Enlightenment” and is freely available online.

I am well-recognized by peers and colleagues as an up-and-coming leader in my field and might normally have been expected to pursue a career in university teaching; however, I took a different road owing to an injury.
