"With over 40 years of experience in science education, I have taught a wide range of subjects at multiple academic levels, from middle school to college. My teaching journey began as an undergraduate at Bowling Green State University, where I served as a teaching assistant for Marine Biology and co-designed a marine biology course for non-majors that remains part of the curriculum today. During my Master's studies at Texas A&M University, I assisted in Introductory Biology and Cell Biology labs while gaining extensive field experience in marine biology research. My doctoral work in paleontology at the University of Cincinnati further expanded my teaching experience as a graduate assistant in Paleontology and an editorial assistant for Paleobiology. Following my Ph.D., I taught a variety of geology courses as a lecturer and tenure-track assistant professor at Northern Kentucky University, where I also led curriculum development efforts, including the redesign of the Geology Program and the creation of new courses.
After moving to Austin, Texas, I transitioned to secondary education, earning a Texas Secondary Certification in Composite Science. Over the next 17 years, I taught nine different science courses at the high school level, ranging from Anatomy & Physiology (Honors) to Earth & Space Science and Astronomy (Honors), while also serving as an adjunct lecturer in Environmental Geology at Austin Community College. Beyond the classroom, I have contributed to curriculum development as a Course Coordinator for the University of Texas OnRamps program and developed specialty scuba courses as a Master Instructor. Since 2022, I have been a science tutor working with middle school, high school, and college students in subjects including Marine Biology, Geology, Physics, Environmental Science, and Meteorology. My extensive teaching background, hands-on field experience, and passion for science education allow me to make complex topics engaging and accessible for learners of all levels." less...
