"Hi! My name is Shelly, and I am a student in the 7-year BS/MD program with The College of New Jersey and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. I am in my last semester of my undergraduate degree in biology, which has entailed taking courses such as General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Calculus, Physics, and numerous Biology courses.
Before college, I taught as a class assistant at an after-school math academy for 3 years. In terms of one-on-one tutoring, I have 6 years of experience with students from elementary school through high school. As a result of these two teaching roles, I am able to effectively tutor in science and math, particularly in subjects such as basic elementary Math, Algebra, Geometry, Biology, and Chemistry. I love to write as well, and have two years of experience working with incoming undergraduate students on their college essays to help them get into top schools and programs.
My past academic experiences in high school include a 1500+ SAT score, 750 Biology SAT, and 5 AP classes with scores of 4-5. In college, I have been on the Dean’s List for several years and hold leadership positions in two student organizations. Therefore, I have a thorough grasp of most STEM-based school and testing curriculums and am very organized.
As a tutor, I work with students to first determine a baseline of confidence in a certain subject, and then adjust my teaching to best help the student. For example, if a student is struggling in algebra, I will first determine the exact topics a student is struggling with, then work with the student to bolster their abilities in those areas. I ask students to come prepared with questions as well, so that we always have a starting point to a lesson. I truly love working with students, and always encourage questions and curiosity. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to help students gain confidence in their ability to solve problems.
Please reach out if you have any questions! I will do my best to answer quickly and thoughtfully. Hope to see you soon!" less...
