"Bonjour ! Je m’appelle Julie Ann — French tutor and language enthusiast.
I’m a lifelong French teacher with 20+ years of experience helping students of all levels gain confidence in speaking. My teaching journey started in high school when I fell in love with French, leading to a year as an exchange student in Amiens, France. That immersive experience helped me think, speak, and even dream in French — and it shaped my approach to teaching ever since.
After earning my BA and MA in French, I taught French at the university level and later became a certified secondary teacher, working with everyone from beginners to advanced IB students. I’ve also taught English in Japan, an experience that gave me deep empathy for the challenges language learners face — especially when it comes to speaking.
Now, I focus on tutoring adults who are learning French on their own and want a relaxed, low-pressure space to actually speak. If you're using an app, taking a course, or working through a book and want to reinforce what you're learning with real conversation and gentle guidance — I’m here to support you! I know that conversation, an actual back and forth, is what most of us are going for in our language learning journey, but one of the things that takes the most practice. My goal is to give you that practice.
In our sessions you can expect thoughtful, low-pressure conversation and role-plays at your level; support with pronunciation, vocabulary, and fluency; feedback and tips based on what you’re working on; as well as encouragement and advice to keep you moving forward.
Language learning should feel alive and joyful — let’s make your French something you can use, not just study." less...
