"Hello! My name is Juliana and I recently graduated from BYU with my bachelor's degree in chemistry. At university, I was a chemistry teaching assistant for about 4 years, teaching general, organic, and biophysical chemistry. As these classes are widely dreaded and commonly failed, I worked hard to find novel and fun teaching methods to explain the concepts and help each student succeed. Instead of helping my students memorize facts that will promptly be forgotten, I seek to teach the principles in a way that will make sense to each student. Seeing my students succeed gives me a lot of joy.
In addition to my university teaching experience, I also have experience tutoring high school students in chemistry, math, and physics. This past summer, I was a counsellor at a STEM summer camp, teaching basic scientific principles to children ages 4–12. Each age presents its own blessings and challenges, but I believe that any student can succeed in assigned, age-appropriate coursework with appropriate assistance and encouragement.
I have used math extensively at university, but I realize that many students find it challenging. As I tutor math, I seek to help students walk through problems, explaining their thought process and rationale as they go. As students understand what is being asked in the question, I can help them understand what steps to take to solve not only that specific problem, but also similar problems on their own.
I loved chemistry in high school, and have been tutoring it informally and formally ever since. I have extensive experience teaching all levels of chemistry, from elementary school students up to graduating university seniors. I am passionate about this subject and find unique analogies to make chemistry fun for all my students.
I look forward to helping you (or your children) reach their academic goals. Contact me, and let's get going!" less...
