"Hello! My name is XuanMai N. and I am a current Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate at the University of California, Riverside. I have been working in STEM for the last 4 years and I am extremely passionate about getting students to succeed and flourish in their education! I have been extremely privileged to be able to work with such wonderful students who are eager to learn and advance their knowledge in STEM.
My most recently completed mathematics course, Multivariable Calculus (Calculus III). I was previously a Calculus I & II (AP Calculus AB/BC) tutor for 1 year with students from high school to universities. For these students, I would focus on the fundamentals of Calculus (this ensures the student is strong in limits, derivatives, integration, etc). Many of the sessions that helped students boast their test scores were getting more practice and direction with Related Rates and Optimization. I have several worksheets and practice problems that I would personally tailor to my students.
Additionally, for 2 years, I worked with IEP students ranging in math levels from 3rd to 12th grade. I had a range of students with moderate ADHD to Severe Autism with Absence seizures. For my IEP students, I held one-on-one meetings that lasted 30-minute- to 1-hour sessions, taking them step-by-step through math problems similar to their homework. I would pre-plan lessons with practice problems that reflected the student's current coursework. Some students sent me their homework to complete together. I would walk through an example problem with the student and have them do a similar one for a few minutes. Afterward, I would clarify any confusion or mistakes that the student had.
Here are some of my achievements in the STEM field:
AP Calculus AB Score: 5
AP Calculus BC Score: 5
AP Biology Score: 5
Calculus III Grade: A (94%)
SAT Math Score 770/800
In general, I received a 4.0 GPA unweighted while taking a total of 7 AP classes.
