"My personal philosophy on teaching/tutoring:

If there is something that you truly do not understand, don't hesitate to ask me. I will address the question immediately. The only thing is, try to work through the problem on your own first. What I do not want is for the student to not even try and just ask for the answer; that shows that the student is unwilling to learn and just wants to get this over with.

Also, teachers are mentors: what I mean by this is that they can advise you about things other than the subject they are paid to do. If there are other things that may be bothering you, don't be shy to ask about it. You'd be surprised how understanding some teachers can be, despite how strict or intimidating they look.

The reason I enjoy being a tutor is that I like helping people understand things, especially when they get that ah-ha moment. It's one of the most satisfying things ever when the student is struggling on a problem for a long time, and then slowly but surely, with a tutor's guidance, the student manages to figure the problem on their own. That moment is when the student realizes they can do it and the tutors knows they won't forget it.
