"I’m Chris! I’ve been teaching chemistry for over 13 years after getting my bachelors and masters in chemistry followed by my masters of science in education. I’m a New York State certified chemistry teacher with experience teaching in both public and private schools. I bring 3 years of experience as an analytical chemist working in the pharmaceutical industry as well. I have worked with students who are taking introductory high school and college chemistry classes, students who are preparing for the MCAT and DAT as well as students who need ELL supports.

I bring a wealth of resources to our tutoring sessions including worksheets, notes, video lectures, practice tests and more. As a teacher, I strive to understand what your needs are and what is holding you back from the levels of success you want to achieve. Tutoring chemistry shouldn't be treated as a one size fits all experience. I work to actively listen for areas of your learning that need support. I approach all my teaching and tutoring with empathy and patience. I know that past struggles can be stressful to address. All the research shows that stress limits our ability to learn effectively. With over 4 years of volunteer crisis counseling, I can promise you a calm and supportive environment that will meet you where you are and gently get you where you need to be.

Let's take an example of a stoichiometry problem. Frequently these questions demand a knowledge of chemical formulas, balancing chemical equations, mathematical processing and strong conceptual understanding for chemical reactions. Together we can pull apart a problem like this to determine your areas of weakness and focus specifically on the skills necessary. We will also develop a scaffold that you can use on new problems outside of the tutoring session. My hope is that you always walk away from a lesson with a concrete tool that you can use to feel confident as you approach your chemistry work.
